GP Technical Institute was honoured to welcome Mayor Jackie Clayton and members of Grande Prairie City Council for a meaningful and productive visit on May 29, 2026.
The visit provided an opportunity for GP Tech’s leadership team to share the vision, philosophy, and future plans for the school as preparations continue for the September 2026 opening.
Throughout the discussion, school representatives highlighted GP Tech’s commitment to hands-on learning, strong academics, student success, career readiness, and meaningful partnerships with local industry and community organizations. The conversation focused on how GP Tech aims to create new educational opportunities for students while helping them connect classroom learning with real-world experiences and future career pathways.
As a public charter school, GP Technical Institute was created to provide families with an additional educational choice that combines Alberta curriculum requirements with applied learning, technical education, entrepreneurship, and practical skill development. The school’s approach is designed to help students discover their interests, build confidence, and graduate with a clear understanding of the many opportunities available to them.
The GP Tech team was encouraged by the engagement, thoughtful questions, and enthusiasm shown by Mayor Clayton and Council members throughout the visit. Their interest and support reflect the shared commitment to helping students thrive and ensuring Grande Prairie continues to be a community where young people can learn, grow, and succeed.
“Community partnerships are at the heart of what we are building at GP Tech,” said the school’s leadership team. “We are grateful for the opportunity to share our vision and discuss how education, industry, government, and community organizations can work together to create meaningful opportunities for students.”
As GP Technical Institute continues to move forward, the school remains focused on building an innovative learning environment where students can develop academic knowledge, technical skills, and the confidence needed to pursue their goals after graduation.
GP Tech would like to thank Mayor Clayton and Grande Prairie City Council for taking the time to visit, learn more about the school’s mission, and support the future of education in our region.
We look forward to continuing these important conversations and working together to create new opportunities for students and families across Grande Prairie and the surrounding area.
