2026/2027 Registration

NEW students applying for the 2026/2027 School year can now register for grades 7-10 (grades 11 & 12 will be a future intake).

Registration deadline is April 30th, 2026. Spaces are limited. In case of oversubscription, GP Technical Institute will conduct a random lottery draw. This process is outlined in the GP Technical Institute charter.  There is no priority on the lottery draw.

You must fully complete the registration process to be considered for September 2026 enrollment.

GP Tech Enrollment Registration Process

— Pre-Registration 

  1. Family reviews GP Tech program fit (hands-on, trades pathways, attend open house).
  2. Family gathers required documents (see Step 4 checklist).


— Submit Application (Digital First)

  1.  Complete the GP Tech Enrollment & Registration Form online.
  2. Family is invoiced a $100 fee to hold space; this fee will be used for any additional programming/ options/field trips, etc. throughout the school year.
  3. If a family cannot access digital registration, GP Tech will provide offline options (paper/phone support) 


— Additional documents must be submitted

  1. Submit supporting documents as follows:
  • Student legal name + date of birth (e.g., birth certificate)
  • Proof of address (guardian)
  • Citizenship/immigration documentation, where applicable 
  • Alberta Student Number (ASN), if available (or GP Tech supports lookup/creation as needed) 

 
—  Registration Complete (Official Enrollment)

  1. GP Tech confirms grade placement 
  2. Parent/guardian signs required consents/notices (FOIP notice, media consent options, tech acceptable use, etc.). 
  3. GP Tech requests records from the previous school (cumulative file transfer), aligning with Alberta’s student record requirements. 
  4. GP Tech issues confirmation email/letter and “next steps” (orientation date, supply lists, safety expectations for shops).

 — Waitlist Process (When Full)

  1. Student is placed on the waitlist based on GP Tech Charter priority order:
    • Siblings of current students
    • Children of staff
    • Then, first-come/first-served for all others 
  2. GP Tech notifies families of status and updates as spaces open.
  3. Waitlist resets annually for non-priority applicants (per Charter). 

 — Orientation + Program Start

  1. Student attends orientation (shop safety expectations, program pathways, schedule).
  2. GP Tech creates/updates student plan (career pathway + learning plan) and establishes family communication routines.

When does registration open?

Admissions open in the spring for the following school year. Early applications are encouraged, as space is limited.

Absolutely! Students at Grande Prairie Technical Institute will graduate with a fully recognized Alberta High School Diploma, plus the added advantage of trade certifications and hands-on career training.

Most students simply need to meet standard Alberta enrollment criteria. However, some specialized programs may have additional requirements, such as prerequisite courses or skill assessments.
